Fakenham Races

Fakenham Racecourse is one of those rare gems that form as much a part of the local community as it does to the National Hunt season. The Fakenham races course is situated in the town of the same name, in north Norfolk, a charming and historic market town which in addition to the racecourse has much to appeal to visitors and forms an ideal base from which to explore north Norfolk.

Fakenham Races, inside rail The intimate rural location forms a very pleasant environment for the course which is small, with a sharp left-handed track. Eight National Hunt fixtures are held each year with the Bank Holiday event in April proving particularly popular.

The Fakenham races track favours nimble, compact front runners rather than good gallopers with plenty of stamina. Although there are only 6 fences, they are particularly challenging, especially the open ditch three from home. Those horses leading into the back straight rarely get caught. Fakenham is a course suited to specialists with previous form on the track.

The first meeting at Fakenham was held in 1905 and difficulty in travelling in those times has meant the course has always had a local flavour to it.

In spite of this the course has always enjoyed a good level of royal patronage, commencing with the Prince of Wales, latterly King Edward VII, and for 50 years her Majesty the Queen. HRH the Prince of Wales has been the patron of the course since the start of the new Millennium and officially opened the new stand in 2002, which now bears his name.

Noted National Hunt enthusiast, Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother also attended the course in her 100th year and now over 100 years old too, Fakenham races continue to delight the crowds and look set to go from strength to strength. Admission costs just £8.00 for the Course Enclosure and £13.00 for the Grandstand and Paddock. A Day Members ticket costs £18.00. Free parking is available and with free admission too for all racegoers under 18 years of age, Fakenham Races is well placed to offer superb family days out.

A series of hospitality options are available for groups and there can be no better way to enjoy VIP treatment for clients, friends and family than a day at the races. The Prince of Wales Stand offers the best views over the entire course and beyond and contains three private boxes, each capable of hosting a raceday event for up to 20 people. A flexible layout means the boxes can be combined too to cater for up to 40 or 60 guests by employing two or all three boxes.

Three all inclusive private box hospitality packages are offered for a minimum group of 20 people. A Light Self Service Buffet option costs £58.00 per person, a two-course Served Hot Buffet Lunch option for £78.00 per person, or a three-course Silver Service Lunch, for £88.00 per person. Afternoon tea can also be served at additional cost. For larger groups of up to 300 people, a Private Marquee is the ideal option and hospitality packages can be tailor-made to your requirements.

For smaller groups of up to 8 persons, combining some first class dining with Fakenham races offers the opportunity to add some style and a sense of celebration to the occasion. The Firth Restaurant is the signature dining facility and, located on the first floor of the Prince of Wales Stand, opens out to the first floor balcony and offers incredible views over the course. Tables can be booked for the entire day incorporating a three course lunch for £52.50 per person. The price includes a racecard but not admission, which requires a Day Members Badge, costing £18.00 per person.

Fakenham Races, photo finish A further restaurant facility, W.J Weston’s Lobster and Oyster Restaurant and Bar, is found within the Parade Ring Room, which overlooks the track and Parade Ring itself. A variety of lunch dishes incorporating fresh local shellfish are served as well as light refreshments.

Light lunches and refreshments are also available throughout the day from Chase Bistro, which is located within the Members Park and there are several additional food and drink outlets found throughout the Grandstand and Paddock, and Course Enclosures.

The facilities and hospitality available within Fakenham Racecourse are perfectly suited to a range of corporate events and private functions outside of racedays.

Business conferences, exhibitions, private celebrations and outdoor events can all be catered for with a selection of inclusive packages or bespoke solutions suited to meet any specific requirements.

The Prince of Wales Stand has a ground floor space with a fully licensed bar and can cater for events for up to 250 people. The dining room on the first floor can also be utilised for up to 110 seated guests. Not only does the Prince of Wales Stand provide the perfect backdrop to wedding celebrations but is licensed to conduct civil ceremonies too. Rooms can additionally be made available for the happy couple to change into their going away attire and for the ultimate impact the course can accommodate helicopter landing and taking off, or if you prefer the more classic route incorporating a horse and carriage.

Norfolk is a popular holiday destination and there are many accommodation options for visitors to the racecourse who wish to spend some time in the area, from caravan and camping to horse and rider holidays, all available on site with a host of other bed and breakfast and hotel accommodation available nearby. All perfectly situated to accommodate you on your visit to Fakenham races.
